Grove
Farm Surface Water Purification Facility |
|
| |
 |
Aqua Engineers was sub-contracted by Grove Farm
Company to design, build, operate and maintain
the first surface water treatment plant on Kauai.
The facility utilizes the ultra-filtration membrane
process. Raw water from the Kapaia Reservoir
is treated by pulling it through the porous
walls of the hollow fibers by a partial vacuum
applied within the membrane. The initial rated
capacity of the plant is based on a firm rate
of 3.0 million gallons per day, and a maximum
production rate of 4.0 mgd. The filtered surface
water services the towns of Lihue, Puhi, and
Hanamaulu.

Poipu
Water Reclamation Facility |
|
| |
 |
The original wastewate facility was constructed
in 1981 to serve the Poipu resort area and designed
to handle 500,000 gallons of wastewater per day.
The effluent is used to irrigate the Kiahuna Golf
Course. In 2004, the treatment capacity was increased
to 1.0 mgd to accommodate the increased development
in the area. Aqua Engineers, Inc. replaced the
conventional activated sludge process with the
Kaldnes Moving Bed Bio-reactor (MBBR) fixed film
process. Cloth disk filters and ultraviolet disinfection
were installed to upgrade the process to produce
R-1 effluent. Briant Construction, Inc. installed
new welded stainless steel tanks and equipment
for the MBBR process. The tanks were constructed
using a new construction method from Italy to
reduce costs by 30 percent. Aqua Engineers, Inc.
continues to operate the facility, which has become
more efficient as a result of the upgrade.

| Schofield |
 |
Aqua Engineers was awarded the “Privatization
of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Distribution
System at Schofield Barracks”, on the
island of Oahu, Hawaii. The contract involves
operation and ownership of the Schofield Barracks
WWTP, 17 WWPSs, approximately 70 miles of gravity
sewers, and numerous grease traps and oil/water
separators. The Schofield Barracks WWTP has
a current design capacity of 4.2 mgd. The scope
of work of our contract includes upgrading the
existing secondary R-2 treatment plant to R-1
standards and installing a SCADA system within
the first 2 years of the contract. Additional
projects scheduled for the first 2 years include
pump station upgrades, oil/water separator and
grease trap upgrades, and development of a comprehensive
collection system maintenance and repair/rehabilitation
project prioritization program.
